On the surface, the state
of Israel is merely a tiny strip of land, no longer than the size of New
Jersey. However, to less than one percent of the world’s population, she
is living proof that the Jewish people have survived against all odds. I
consider Israel to be my homeland and although I do not physically live
there, my constant thoughts of the country’s well-being keep me strongly
connected to the land. One may point to my Jewish faith as a reason for
this connection, but Israel should be important to all Americans because
she can help the U.S. reach social, technological, and political
advancements.
Unfortunately, Jews have
long been considered the world’s scapegoat. If Hitler had fulfilled the
final solution that was brought forth during
the Wannsee Conference, the rich culture of the Jews would have been
forgotten. After the diminishing of the Jewish faith, the world

would naturally choose
another scapegoat to ridicule. African-Americans, Hispanics, and other
minorities will become the next target of attack. For this reason, it is
in the best interest of these minorities, who largely reside in the United
States, to support the State of Israel. Above all, Israel represents a
stepping stone towards toleration and acceptance in the world.
These traces of toleration
are relatively new and refreshing in our cold world. About sixty years has
passed since the world has lowered its extreme rate of anti-Semitism and
allowed Jews to have a homeland. However, this is not to say to that
anti-Semitism has exponentially decreased over the years, because it has
not. Moreover, the creation of the State of Israel was expedited by the
Holocaust. Although the idea for a Jewish Homeland originated in the
1880’s, about sixty years before the Holocaust, the Holocaust
proved that all Jews need a place where they can feel safe. Conceivably,
if a state had been created previous to World War II, the Jews would have
moved or been sent to Israel, and Hitler would not have exterminated six
million. Israel would have been a safe haven for the Jewish people. The
State of Israel will guarantee the survival of Judaism. And while it is
hard to accept, the preservation of the State of Israel should bring
comfort to many American minorities since they know that they will not be
the world’s global target. But while the Jews are still the world’s
scapegoat, times have changed. If the Jews are ever formally persecuted
again, they can take comfort in the fact that there is a safe place to
flee from bigotry and hatred.
Israel is also important to
Americans in technological and political spheres. Israel ranks among the
world’s elite in technological advancements. Many of the world's most
advanced military, technological, health care, and agricultural
innovations have been and are currently being produced in Israel. For a
country the size of New Jersey, this is nothing short of remarkable. By
allying itself with Israel, America can learn from Israel’s ingenious
creations to stem more

technological advancements,
which will undoubtedly benefit them in the long run. Israel is also the
only true democracy in the Middle East. It is in the best interest of
America, a country whose democratic fabrics have led to great success, to
see Israel thrive among its tyrannical, corrupt neighbors.
It is clear to see that the
people of America can bring about social, technological, and political
development by supporting the state of Israel. This statement holds true
for both Jews and non-Jews alike. |
