On a beautiful spring vacation, I found
myself carelessly flipping through the television channels. But suddenly,
my attention stopped on a CNN news story. The news was about a man in
Afghanistan, who was given death threats because he accepted Jesus into
his life. Well, I began to think how ignorant we are in this world, not
letting other people be happy.
Every day of our life we can do
something positive for other people, and at the same time, we can often
profit from these good deeds. I made it a personal goal to explore as much
as I could of the world, and understand as many different types of people
as possible. By the time I turned sixteen, I was an exchange student in
United States of America. The program wasn’t just about being in United
States, it was about me and how I can represent my country so that we can
understand each other better. The first time I contributed, to my memory,
to better mankind was during Hurricane Katrina. I was working to provide
relief, when a young boy came up to me. He said: “You are the same as all
of us... you still have the same needs.” And that moment I thought he is
absolutely right. No matter where we are from, we all have the same needs.
Today, we are starting to
struggle more and more over religion. Racism today goes beyond skin color,
it goes farther than we could ever imagine. I think the worst part is
that we stereotype people on how they dress, and especially, that all
Muslims can be terrorists. When I came to United States, I found how
influential we can be to each to other, the only thing we need is a
willingness to do just that.
We have to start thinking if it
is worth doing what we are doing and be more open to new things. We have
to face far more important problems like how we are going to breathe
tomorrow, and what we can do to decrease pollution. Hybrid cars and other
inventions are a start. Be positive to everything, don’t try to make
everyone like you, that’s the reason we are alive because we are all
different. We cannot think that life will magically get better. We have to
fight for that, we have to fulfill the plans we are here for, to make this
world a better place. |
